MTN/FAZ Super division outfit NAPSA Stars were yesterday rattled to a fifth defeat in a row after being walloped 3-1 by Buildcon in a week 25 fixture played at Edwin Imboela Stadium.
Despite NAPSA enjoying home ground advantage, the pensioners were stunned when John Makwata beat NAPSA goal keeper Rabson Muchelenga to give Buildcon a good start in the second half.
Buildcon maintained their dominance and were rewarded when striker Serunkuwa Geoffrey struck twice in two minutes to complete his brace.
Signs Chibambo scored the consolation goal for NAPSA Stars in the dying minutes of the game but it was not enough to rescue the pensioners from suffering their fifth straight defeat in a row.
This was Buildcon’s second win in a row having beaten police sponsored Nkwazi 3-1 in a week 24 league fixture played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium last weekend.
Meanwhile in an early kickoff of the double header played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Green Buffaloes held league leaders Zesco United to a barren stalemate.
With both teams having had a fair share of ball possession in the two halves, the two teams failed to find the back of the net and settled for a barren draw.
Zesco however moved back to the summit of the league table despite having failed to collect maximum points against Green Buffaloes.
The 2016 league runners up command the table with 46 points, one point ahead of second placed Power Dynamos who defeated Red Arrows 3-1 on Saturday to move to 45 points.
In the second fixture of the double header played at Nkoloma Stadium, Nkana Striker Bonwell Mwape scored in the dying minutes of the game to inflict more agony on relegation threatened City of Lusaka who recorded their seventh loss of the season.
The 1-nil beating of “Yamoto” helped Nkana to move to sixth position on the league table with 41 points, five points behind the league leaders Zesco United.
Meanwhile City remain stuck in the relegation Zone with 12 points collected from two wins and six draws.
At the New Nakonde Stadium in Northern Province, Joe Kandela scored the only goal of the game seven minutes into the second half to hand Real Nakonde a 1-nil victory over Konkola Blades.
The win gave Nakonde some hope of surviving relegation as they moved to eighteenth on the league table with 18 points.
