KAFUBU Water and Sewerage Company (KWSC) has installed pumps in Ndola’s Ndeke Township at a cost of US$25 million.

The company’s Director of Engineering Bernard Phiri said the projects were part of the accumulative results of many projects that the water utility company has embarked on in towns that it services.

Mr.Phiri explained that the scope of work during the project was to place a line at the company’s Nakaputa reservoir which would supply water to Skyways area and parts of Mushili.

He thanked the government for the support it has rendered the water utility company.

“Upper Ndeke is the highest in terms of elevation and it is the furthest point that we had to supply water and installation of such pumps entails that the whole area will have water.

And internally, we have also managed to lay new pipes, removing concrete ones that have outlived their usefulness, meaning we have stopped losing water but have increased access to the resource to many parts of Ndola,” he said

Meanwhile, Ndola Central Member of Parliament Dr. Jonas Chanda indicated that the area has for years been subjected to water shortages.

Dr Chnda said that the situation was worse during the period that the country experienced constant load-shedding.

He said reduced loadshedding and installation of water pipes with high pressure valves has increased water supply to the area.

“Water is Life. Putting up the pump reservoirs to stabilise water levels and replacing of small pipes with low pressure valves along the main Nakaputa water treatment line has resulted in the water reticulation in the area being improved. I’m happy and the community is happy with the development.

“I also met with management at KWSC to negotiate for 100 percent cancellation of water bills for the period that the area had no access to water. Only the minimal fixed sewerage fee of 30 percent of total water bill will be paid over a period of time,” he said.
