THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) is to investigate reports that some of their drivers allegedly dumped garbage at an undesignated site in Lusaka’s Mimosa area.
The move is said to have resulted in residents in the area to also follow suit as they took it for granted that it was a designated dumping site.
One resident in the area, Mulukuma Sakala, told the Daily Nation that the incident happened a week ago when the institution was preparing for the launch of the ‘Road Safety Management System’ at Mimosa Vehicle Testing Centre.
“RTSA a government institution agency was dumping waste illegally in a place that is not designated for dumping waste it’s just alongside Mimosa.
They dumped all the waste that their client’s left when they went to Mimosa Vehicle Testing Centre with bottles plastics you name littered all over the place, charged Mr. Sakala. Mr Sakala further claimed that one of the RTSA truck drivers informed him that he was acting upon instructions from his boss.
“As a community we are disappointed with the situation in that while the government is doing what it can to stop cholera through cleaning exercises other arms of government are doing the opposite,” he charged.
When contacted RTSA Public Relations Officer Fredrick Mubanga said the agency was not aware that drivers from the agency dumped garbage at a site which was not designated at Mimosa.
Mr Mubanga however said RTSA would investigate the matter.
