STANDARD Chartered Bank has been highly commended by the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) for its 110 years stay in Zambia despite the different economic cycles and challenging times.

BoZ governor, Denny Kalyalya, said Standard Chartered Bank and other banks in Zambia, had a role to play in helping where they could during challenging times.

He was speaking when the Standard Chartered Bank and the BoZ boarded the ‘110 years bus’ on Saturday to officially launch Standard Chartered Bank’s ‘110 years in Zambia – Here for Africa’ campaign.

“It is good that Standard Chartered Bank has stayed in Zambia throughout the different economic cycles, and that they have stayed in the good times as well as the challenging times,” he said.

Dr. Kalyalya observed that Standard Chartered was the first bank to introduce extended banking hours and the only one that has late night banking at Manda Hill.

He commended Standard Chartered for introducing the SC Mobile App, mobile banking and internet banking.

He noted that Standard Chartered had consistently been ranked Best Bank in Zambia.

And Standard Chartered Bank Zambia chief executive officer, Andrew Okai, expressed his gratitude for the Bank’s partnership with the central bank.

Mr Okai further expressed gratitude with the people of Zambia over its 110 years existence in the country.

He reiterated Standard Chartered Bank’s unwavering commitment to Zambia and indeed, Africa.

Standard Chartered has been operating in Zambia for 110 years since opening its first branch in Kalomo in 1906.

This week, the Bank continues with its week-long activities to commemorate this historic achievement.
