NORTH-WESTERN Province minister Richard Kapita has implored traditional leaders in the province to work in partnership with Government to enhance development in the region.
Mr Kapita said President Edgar Lungu was determined to deliver development to all parts of Zambia even where he was not voted for.
He said President Lungu wanted the much talked about Solwezi-Chingola road to be completed by August this year because it was a road with economic benefit.
“That partnership should be maintained and strengthened because that is the only way development will be brought closer to the people,” he said.
Mr Kapita said this when he paid courtesy calls on senior chiefs Mukumbi and Musele at their respective palaces during his familiarization tour of Kalumbila district yesterday.
And the two chiefs assured him that they were in support of any government in power because all they wanted was development for their people.
They appealed to Government to consider construction of universities in the province with Senior Chief Mukumbi suggesting that at least every four districts in the province should have a university.
Meanwhile, Mr Kapita has commended the two traditional leaders for surrendering about 8,000 hectares of their land to Government to establish a central business district for the newly created Kalumbila district.
He urged the district administration to properly plan the development of the town by not allowing unplanned settlements that might result into shanty compounds.
