By PRINCE CHIBAWAH

THE UPND is engaging wrong people and strategies in their cry for sympathy, says PF media director, Sunday Chanda.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Chanda said the decision by UPND to turn to foreign disgruntled elements like NUMSA, EFF and DA for support was an indication that the party had lost direction.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Democratic Alliance (DA) together with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) have ganged up to discredit the Zambian Government over the incarceration of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema

“There is a serious leadership crisis in the UPND. You can tell by the manner the party is being run: the decisions they are making, the people they are engaging and the strategies they are using.”

He said the party had reached a point where it was struggling to justify its relevance.

“The move by the UPND to engage foreign political players to back them in their quest to rule Zambia is an indication that the party is lacking credible leaders.”

Mr Chanda said it was unfortunate that leaders of EFF, DA and NUMSA, had continued meddling in the internal affairs of Zambia.

He appealed to the people of Zambia to condemn the lies being peddled against President Edgar Lungu’s administration by the three organisations.

The vicious propaganda campaign was launched after UPND officials travelled to South Africa where they held a series of meetings with some politicians including the EFF leader Julius Malema.

In South Africa, the EFF party is widely known for its uncivilised behaviour of disrupting parliamentary proceedings and also its involvement in violent protests that recently rocked some learning institutions in that country.

Just in February 2016, EFF’s Pretoria youth leader Omphile Seleke caused outrage when he shared details on how to make a petro bomb on Facebook.

Since then several cases of arson have taken place at universities, most notably at University of Johannesburg and University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Zambia has not been spared either by these evil acts.

The country has recorded unprecedented cases of arson and economic sabotage that have left several electricity installations and markets razed.

The criminal activities forced President Edgar Lungu to invoke Article 31 of the Republican Constitution to give more power to the Police with the view to restore law and order in the country.
