THERE is a demonic force behind the hatred for President Edgar Lungu by the United Party for National Development (UPND) hence their need for serious prayers, says its former vice-president Canicius Banda

Dr Banda said that it was weird for an opposition political party to continue to take pride in hating the Head of State and always criticising whatever he did or said even if it was something good.

He was reacting to UPND chief whip Garry Nkombo’s remarks, that President Lungu’s speech during the official opening of the second session of the National Assembly last Friday was “empty.”

Mr Nkombo said that the President’s speech was uninspiring, as it did not address important matters affecting the nation.

“The speech of the President was suppressed, because somebody made it for him to read, it was so uninspiring. He talked about diversification, that is not a new song, we have heard this many times. The President has failed to inspire me, he could have done better,” Mr Nkombo said.

But, Dr Banda said criticism of President Lungu’s speech by the UPND was an indicator that the opposition party was in need of serious prayers.  He said it was clear that there was a demonic force behind the opposition’s hatred for the President.

He said it was strange for the UPND to trash the President’s speech, when a lot of people including some opposing political parties hailed it.

Dr Banda said the President’s vision of a smart and prosperous Zambia that will not leave anyone behind was key in enhancing economic development, equity and wealth creation for all Zambians.

Dr Banda said he was particularly delighted that the President had continued to prioritise poverty reduction as a key area of strategic focus for his government.

He said the President’s speech was well articulated and showed clear link of the objectives of the vision 2030 and the Seventh National Development Plan.

“This kind of hatred by UPND towards the Head of State is too much, even if they are in opposition they should at least learn to give credit where it’s due, “I think we should put UPND in the 40 days prayer and fasting, maybe we should dedicate one day to praying for the opposition party, so that the spirit of the Lord cleanses them, so that they begin to realise that they maybe in the opposition, but they are Zambians,” Dr Banda said.

Dr Banda described President Lungu as a right leader who had the commitment, determination and selflessness to improve the livelihood of the Zambian people
