MMD does not owe money to the Bank of Zambia or National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and what was being portrayed is as a result of sour grapes from disgruntled individuals who are bent on tarnishing the image of the former ruling party.
MMD Vice president for Political Dr. Michael Kaingu says that it is no longer safe to live inZambiaunder the Patriotic Front (PF) government.
Responding to journalists yesterday, Dr. Kaingu said that events which have taken place in the country since the PF formed government were worrying and a source of concern to everyone.
And Dr. Kaingu said that the current situation in the country was highly worrying and people should be worried about their lives.
“ Recent events taking place in the country are quite worrying, we don’t know which way the country is going, today we are worried about our life. What is happening in governance now is unprecedented.
Freedoms and rights are being curtailed at will by the PF government going against the principles of good governance,” said Dr. Kaingu.
Dr. Kaingu said that it was sad that President Sata had taken a new twist on governance which was a grave mistake to the growth of democracy in the country.
“It is unprecedented that people cannot mingle with anyone anymore under the leadership of the PF, we remember ourselves when President Sata was in the opposition he was given an opportunity to gather and mingle with people.
We gave him an enabling environment to meet people at the market and everywhere where he wanted to go to hold public meetings and rallies, and as a person who benefited from this we expect him to come out right and make some pronouncements to condemn what the police are doing right now in the country.”
Dr. Kaingu has that he was also alarmed by the continued silence by the church over matters of governance, corruption and abuse of human rights by President Sata’s government.
He said the church should come out in the open and denounce the brutality and barbaric way of governance the PF were pushing through.
“We want the civil society, the churches and other political parties to condemn the barbaric action of the PF tailored police against the opposition, today it is MMD tomorrow, it will be UPND and when this government is done with the strong Political parties it will follow and go for the churches. You will be stopped very soon from having over night prayers, especially you people attending these overnight prayers you will not even gather believe me you. This government is brutal. Very soon you will not gather to mourn the dead, you will be required to provide a police permit for that. This is how serious this issue is and it is worrying for everyone of us,” he said.
And Dr. Kaingu said that MMD did not owe money to the Bank of Zambia or National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and what was being portrayed was as a result of sour grapes from disgruntled individuals who were bent on tarnishing the image of the former ruling party.
“We are perturbed by the events that are taking place in our country today. There are some people who are throwing mud at the image of our Party. I want to categorically state that MMD does not owe Bank of Zambia K4 billion neither does it owe NAPSA the K90 million. There is no judgment against MMD involving these two (2) Institutions,” said Dr. Kaingu.
He said that what was being portrayed in the public was sour grapes and malice aimed at destroying the opposition by some disgruntled members.
