THE Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has implored public service workers to commemorate this years’ Africa Public Service Day by promising to adopt a quality culture in their systems and procedures to help enhance service delivery.
ZABS head marketing and public relations Hazel Zulu said this was because the public service was the biggest employer in the country and the principal provider of various goods and services to the public.
She said there was need for the sector to ensure that they met and exceeded public expectations in terms of service delivery.
“As a bureau we would therefore like to encourage all public service workers to take the lead in ensuring that they promote professionalism and adopt a quality culture in order to ensure that the goods and services provided to the public is up to standard,“ she said.
She explained that the best way to establish and maintain a positive quality culture in the public service was through regular training, adding that there was need to encourage all public institutions, particularly the civil service, to consider training their workers in the Quality Management Systems standard.
She said training could help improve the overall performance of an organization and promote economic development.
“Training in management systems standard will help inculcate a quality culture in the minds of the workers and help them to change their mindsets and improve the overall performance of the public service,” she said.
She said a trained human resource was a recipe for economic development
