THE Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZiCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Malawi (ICAM) have partnered to host the International Executive Retreat (IER) with a call on accountants to be innovative and transformative.

ZiCA president Cecilia Zimba said that if accountancy professionals continue to cling on to the old concept of leadership, then the future of the profession would be doomed.

Ms Zimba observed that there was no such thing as getting back to the old way of life and hence the need to move forward.

She was speaking during the opening of the inaugural IER co-hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Malawi and ZiCA at Avani Victoria Falls in Livingstone yesterday, She said that the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic which has affected many economies has taught the profession that service is the core element of leadership and that the capacity to listen to the needs of the various systems are privileges to be responsible for.

“I am afraid, the extraordinary leadership that is needed in these moments of disruption is the kind that will allow us to invent new organisations, new economies and new ways of working,” Ms Zimba said.

ICAM president Phyles Kachingwe observed the need for the ICAM and ZiCA’s cooperation to benefit the profession
