A HORDE of angry UPND cadres yesterday stormed Nakonde Police Station and assaulted police officers as they tried to rescue their colleagues who were detained for assault.

The cadres were armed with catapults, stones and sticks when they stormed the police front office and left two police officers with injuries while the PF cadres who were at the police station sought refuge within the buildings of the Police Station.

Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo said seven cadres have been apprehended and detained for discreditable Conduct at a Police Station and assault.

Ms Katongo said in a statement that some PF cadres when to report three suspected UPND cadres to the police for assault.

“Acting on this criminal conduct, 7) suspected UPND Cadres identified as Handson Muleya aged 32, Morris Sinyinza 31, Mpundu Emmanuel 25, Siame Kenneth 38, Griffin Muchindu 34, Francis Sikazwe 29 and Bernard Simwinga 30 were apprehended and detained for Discreditable Conduct at a Police Station while three (3) other UPND Cadres identified as Jackson Chomba, the aspiring candidate for Ikumbi Ward Councillor, Aaron Sichimata and Adam Chimfwembe are detained for Assault Oc-cassioning Actual Bodily Harm. Medical report forms have been issued to the victims,” she said.

Ms Katongo said some PF cadres reported three assault cases alleged to have occurred at Ikumbi Taxi Rank, near Customs Yard that they were assaulted by suspected UPND Cadres identified as Ad-am Chimfwembe, Jackson Chomba aged 40 also an aspiring candidate as a councilor for UPND at Old Fife Ward and Aaron Sichimata aged 19 all of Ntindi Village.

She said three suspects were apprehended and detained prompting other UPND Cadres to storm the Police Station in an attempt to forcefully rescue their colleagues who were in police deten-tion.

Ms Katongo said at that point some PF Cadres who had escorted the victims of the assault were still at the front office at the police station.

She said the unruly mob of armed UPND cadres stormed the police front office and attacked police officers.

Ms Katongo saod a Toyota Vitz unregistered which was parked at the Police Station, property of one of the police officers was damaged during the same incident.

And Ms Katongo explained that the perosn being depicted in the video which has gone viral with head injuries identified as Misheck Kabwe aged 34 years of Ntindi village in Nakonde also Provincial UPND Youth Chairman, was attempting to stop his fellow UPND members from perpetuating their misconduct and was in the process injured.

She said Mr Kabwe sustained a deep cut at the back of the head and on the left eye but that cir-cumstance under which he was injured has not yet been established.
