CHOMA MAN JAILED FOR BEATING EX-WIFE

By Mulenga Musonda

The Choma Fast Track Court for Gender Based Violence has slapped a Choma man with 6 months imprisonment term for beating up his ex-wife because she couldn’t allow him to sleep at her place.

Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo found it incumbent that Western Chimbalanga sees the walls of a prison cell for his animalistic behavior of whipping his defenseless ex-wife with a belt without shame.

In this matter Chimbalanga appeared before court charged with ‘Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm’ contrary to section 248 chapter 87 of the penal code of the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Chimbalanga on June 3, 2021 assaulted Divine Siambale and thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.

When he appeared for plea before Court, the accused person willingly admitted to whipping his ex-wife for denying him access to her bedroom.

According to the facts on record, the accused person visited the complainant who happens to be his ex-wife and demanded that he spends a night in her house.

Despite his ex-wife declining this demands, he forced himself into the house and slept for some hours before the two got into a serious argument that led to Chimbalanga stripping off his belt and without mercy whipped Siambale.

Siambale sustained a black swollen eye from the beatings but managed to report her ex-husband to the police for domestic violence the following day.

Despite his pleas for forgiveness, Magistrate Mupemo sentenced Chimbalanga to six months imprisonment with hard labour in order to help him reform.
