ZESCO United equalled “Mighty” Mufulira Wanderers record of winning nine Super League titles after outclassing Napsa Stars 2-0 in a rescheduled Week-18 fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

And in the early kick off at at the same stadium, Indeni and Forest Rangers shared the points after settling for a goalless draw in their local derby.

Two goals from Kenyan International, Jese Were and Mubanga Kampamba gifted Zesco their ninth league title and made things worse for struggling Napsa Stars who are likely to compete in the Eden University National Division One League after failing to dodge the relegation zone following their defeat.

The championselect outplayed Napsa from the first whistle knowing that they needed only two points to bag the 2020/2021 MTN Super League title with three games to spare.

Napsa Stars had the first chance to break the deadlock five minutes after kick off but Tapson Kaseba’s effort went inches over the bar before Zesco came through with wave after wave of attacks.

Were almost put Zesco ahead in the eighth minute with an effort which was saved by goalkeeper Ohdoji Shaban.

Samuel Sikaongas saw his header saved by Shaaban who was also lucky not to concede in the 16th minute when Kelvin Kampamba unleashed a powerful shot which went wide.

Zimbabwean international Thabani Kamusokos also came close to scoring the opener for Zesco in the 19th minute but was unlucky as his effort came off the upright.

Napsa second attempt at goal came in the 37th minute when Simon Nkata’s shot went over the bar three minutes before Jese Were scored to give Zesco the lead five minutes before halftime.

Kalengo almost doubled the lead two minutes later after he unleashed a powerful shot which went wide as the first stanza ended 1-0 in favour of the home team.

In the second half, Zesco continued to put Napsa under pressure and almost doubled their advantage through Kampamba whose long range shot was saved by Shaaban three minutes into the second half.

Kampamba finally put his name on the score sheet with a superb strike which guaranteed Zesco’s championship status after opening an 11-point lead at the summit of the MTN Super League table with 64 points.

Napsa continues to languish in the relegation zone where they seat on 17th position with 36 point.

Meanwhile, in the early kick off at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Indeni and Forest Rangers shared the points after setling for a goalless draw.
