MPOMBO SLAMS LUNGU IMMUNITY LIFTING PUSHERS

By GIDEON NYENDWA

THE plan by a UPND Member of Parliament to move a motion to strip the immunity of former President Edgar Lungu for him to exonerate himself against politically-motivated accusations is evil and malicious, veteran politician George Mpombo has said.

Dr. Mpombo said wanting to remove the immunity of the former president without any proof of criminality on him is intended to harass and demonise him.

He was reacting to a matter in which UPND Sesheke Member of Parliament Romeo Kangombe said he is planning to move a motion to remove President Lungu’s immunity in the National Assembly because he wants him to exonerate himself on perception that he had looted and destroyed the economy of this country.

Dr. Mpombo said such politics by the UPND are cheap, dangerous and are aimed at unleashing corrosive hatred against the former President.

He said the former President has made a gargantuan contribution to the economic development of this country and political stability in the nation.

“Kangombe’s call is hatred corroded and shows that the UPND are hell-bent on settling old scores,” Dr. Mpombo said.

Meanwhile, Christian Democratic Party president Danny Pule said the suggested move to strip the former president’s immunity is malicious because it is based on mere speculation without substantiated evidence.

Apostle Pule said such hate statements can only be made by a sponsored enemy of President Lungu.

He said in an event where there are any suspicions, they have to investigate first and when they have evidence, they can bring in the issue of stripping his immunity.

“Without that they are just being vindictive against the former president,” Apostle Pule said.
