Kapiri council to spend K900, 000 in library construction

The Kapiri Mposhi Town Council has commenced the construction of a public library which will cost K900, 000.

Council Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nelly Nkolongo said the local authority resolved to construct the library in order to boost its chance of attaining a municipality status by the year 2022.

In a media statement to ZANIS, Ms. Nkolongo said the library, which will be the first in the district, is also aimed at promoting the reading culture and offering a recreational service in the district especially among the youthful population.

“As you may be aware we don’t have a public library in the district and we are basically responding to the needs of the community and to enhance our chances of attaining a municipal status of which the public library is a requirement among others,” Ms. Nkolongo explained.

She stated that once operational, the library will provide both integrated academic and library support services using digital and traditional library systems to the general public in the district.

“The public library will provide information to members of the community for the purpose of research and recreation especially for school going children in order for us to create an informed society which is critical to development,” Ms. Nkolongo said.

The library is being constructed by Luwai Investments Limited and will be completed in five months’ time.
