CLARIFY CLIQUES STATEMENT, VJ ADVISES HH

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should ensure that the misunderstanding caused by his statement on how the country has been ruled since 1964 is corrected so that the country doesn’t have to go through such a situation again, veteran politician and diplomat Vernon Mwaanga has advised.

Mr. Mwaanga is of the view that the President was misunderstood by a number of people and might have been misquoted by the media when they reported that the head of State said the country has since 1964 been ruled by a clique of thieves.

He said in an interview that being a journalist, he was aware of what misreporting could do and hopes that the clarification made through his press aide, Anthony Bwalya would correct the misunderstanding once and for all.

“I think that when President Hakainde Hichilema made that comment, he was misunderstood by a number of people even misreported by journalists and I being a journalist myself, I know what misreporting can do and that is what happened,
“But I think it was later clarified and I hope the misunderstanding caused has now been corrected so that we don’t go through this again,” he said.

Mr. Mwaanga, however, said in the recent past, the country has certainly seen disturbing leadership development where the principle of service to the nation was highly sacrificed by those in leadership.

He said Zambians are instead witnessing what he called self-service which the freedom fighters including himself never fought for.

“Having been involved in government since 1964 and in the struggle for independence, we have certainly seen very disturbing leadership developments, where the principle of service to the nation was highly sacrificed and instead we were witnessing what I would call service for me, myself and I,” Mr. Mwaanga said.
