MUFULIRA – MOKAMBO ROAD WORKS TO COMMENCE THIS WEEK

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

GOVERNMWNT has made resources available for the construction of the Mufulira – Mokambo road.

Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo said the Ministries of Finance and Infrastructure assured him that resources were ready for the commencement of the works on the road.

Mr Matambo was speaking after he received a report that some residents of Mufulira, Mokambo and the surrounding areas protested in the early hours of Sunday over the bad state of the road.

Mr Matambo assured the residents that the contractor would move on site in the next few days for commencement of the works.

Mr Matambo , who also visited the site to appreciate the complaints that the residents had raised, said their complaint was genuine as the road becomes impassable every year in the rain season.

“I know that previous governments have failed to honor their promise of working on the road but ours is a serious government that believes in working things out and walking the talk.

“We will as government also ensure that we involve a contractor who will do a good job because we believe in quality,” he said.

Mr Matambo added that the government would monitor the project to ensure that the works that would be done withstand the test of time.

Meanwhile, Mufulira Mayor Tanaeli Kamanga said it was inevitable that the road was worked on to ease the movements for the residents of Mokambo, Murundu Congo DR among other places.

Mr Kamanga thanked Mopani Copper Mines among other private firms in the district, for putting up temporal measures on the road to at least make it passable.
