Police have gunned down three armed criminals in Lusaka’s Lilanda area.

Police have also recovered a vehicle and an AKA 47 with four rounds of ammunition which the suspected bandits intended to use at a robbery in Matero’s Lilanda area last night.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga told a media briefing that police that rushed to the scene of crime after a tip off by members of the public, prevented the intended crime from taking place.

He said that criminals wanted to stage robbery, but police rushed to scene where there a heavy exchange of gun fire ensued.

He said of the five criminals that were found at a scene, three were killed while two are still at large.

Hamoonga has asked communities that might be missing their relatives to identify those gunned down at UTH mortuary where the bodies of the gunned down criminals are deposited.

He warned that police have drawn a battle line with the criminals and are under instructions to shooting to kill unrepentant criminals.

The police spokesperson warned criminals to remain committed to crimes at their own peril saying, the police will not hesitate to kill those committing robbery at will.

He also asked citizens that still have arms to return them to the police under the amnesty.

He said the guns on the streets are the ones being used by criminals to committee criminal activities.
