20 PF MEMBERS, ASSOCIATES RAIDED, SEARCHED

By SIMON MUNTEMBA

ABOUT 20 people associated with the Patriotic Front (PF) have so far either had their homes raided by the investigative wings, interrogated or arrested, PF vice president Given Lubinda has disclosed.

And Mr Lubinda has challenged the Government to come clean on what their intentions are concerning Indeni, Zesco, KCM and Mopani.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Lubinda said due to appetite for vengeance and retribution, government through the security wings has continued raiding and searching homes belonging to his party and their  associates on a weekly basis.

“Many of our members and those associated with the PF have either had their homes raided by investigative wings of government or have been summoned by them to answer to all sorts of accusations,” Mr Lubinda said.

He said the former first lady’s foundation, Bowman Lusambo, Bwalya Kalandanya, Amon Jere, Amos Chanda, Andrew Lubusha, Ronald Chitotela, Davies Chama, Stephen Kampyongo, Raphael Nakacinda and Joseph Malanji as some of the people who were victims of raids, searches and arrests.

Others are Michael Katambo, Davies Mwila, Antonio Mwanza, Mumbi Phiri, Mundia Mundale, Capt. Walusiku Lyambela, Kaumba Manjolo and Glenn Chingumbe.

He also said that his party was surprised by revelations that the Head of State recently instructed two of his officials to return money and vehicles that they received from their well-wishers.

If these gifts were bribes, he asked, why did he not report them to the ACC instead of just asking them to return them? Is this how corruption shall be fought when it involves UPND members?

Meanwhile, Mr Lubinda said the government should stop issuing conflicting statements and tell the nation what its plans are for Indeni, Zesco, KCM and Mopani.
