THE decisions that President Hakainde Hichilema is making indicate that he is not willing to stand in 2026 that is why he cares less when the people who voted get punished, former Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo has said.
Mr Lusambo said what Mr Hichilema was showing to the nation was that he had achieved what he wanted and what would happen afterwards in 2026 did not matter.
He said the president had continued to sing praises of himself that what his government had achieved in 16 months was like having been in government for four years. Mr Lusambo said any president who wanted to remain in power would do everything to make sure the people who vote were happy with the way the country was being governed.
He said Mr Hichilema was so detached from what was happening in this county such that when one hears him speak they may think he presides over a different Zambia from the one everyone lives in. Mr Lusambo said most of the successes that the UPND were bragging about were just on paper but the people on the ground were not feeling any improvements.
He said the president was recently talking about how he had sealed the sources of money for the people who worked in the previous government such that in the next few months they would start failing to take their vehicles for servicing.
“That was a careless statement because if you are punishing people by making them fail to pay for services like fixing their cars was like saying that will also kill the businesses that were providing that service,” he said.
Mr Lusambo also said the UPND administration was not interested in local business and entrepreneurs that was the reason why even the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises has failed to produce tangible results.
