Act now, Hichilema told

By JOHN KOMBE

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should act on the leaked audio by suspending or firing those implicated to pave way for investigations in the matter because this is what he demanded when he was in opposition, the Green Party has demanded.

The opposition political party made the observation through its president, Peter Sinkamba in an interview yesterday.

Mr Sinkamba said that the UPND government is on record to have called for the suspension or firing of cabinet ministers to pave way for investigations, but wondered why such calls were not being heeded by the President.

He was commenting on a statement by Presidential spokesperson, Anthony Bwalya who on Monday said President Hichilema will not act on a leaked audio involving two senior government officials until a professional investigation is done.

Mr Sinkamba said they were disappointed that the President had not acted on the matter and wondered how the officers implicated in the matter could appropriately be investigated when they were still holding positions of influence during the course of the said investigations.

He said the President had all the state machinery to give him the information within hours and as such the matter cannot drag on while the public continue to speculate.
