KABWATA PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION SET FOR FEBRUARY 3

By KETRA KALUNGA

KABWATA Parliamentary by-election has been set for February 3, while fresh nominations would be held on 19 January, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced.

The elections which were scheduled to take place on Thursday next week were cancelled following the resignation of United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate, Francis Libanda.

ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager, Patricia Luhanga announced in a statement that the polls would take place from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours on February 3, 2022.

Ms Luhanga added that aspiring candidates should also take along with them 15 supporters who must be registered voters of Kabwata constituency and be in possession of their Green National Registration Cards and voters cards.

The Kabwata constituency by-election follows the death of UPND Member of Parliament (MP), Levy Mkandawire in November last year.

The resignation of UPP candidate Mr. Libanda invoked the provisions of article 52 (6) which says that an election should be cancelled if a candidate dies or resigns.
