Spain, France donate 900,000 Covid-19 vaccines
Over 900,000 Covid-19 vaccines doses have arrived in Zambia donated by the governments of Spain and France under the Covax facility.
Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo thanked France, Spain and the European Union (EU) for the substantial boost to the country’s Covid -19 basket.
Ms Masebo said Zambia has continued to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic with sustained measures since it started.
She noted that these measures include the robust vaccinations campaigns which continue to gain speed and that government will play its part. The Minister was speaking when she received the COVID-19 Johnsons and Johnson vaccines consignment donated by France and Spain under the Covax facility aboard an Emirates flight at Lusaka international Airport in Lusaka on Frida night.
She noted that vaccines play a critical role in the response and cooperating partners have acknowledged this by their continued support through such donations.
Ms Masebo noted that the donation of the vaccines will be put to maximum use and ensuring that lead communities are vaccinated against Covid19.
And speaking earlier Ambassador representing the European Union to Zambia Jacek Jankoweski commended the Ministry of Health for its leadership in the management and condition of the pandemic.
Mr Jankoweski added that the EU appreciates the ministry’s recognition and efforts to assure continuity of routine health service delivery.
He urged the government to tailor the vaccination campaign by targeting the priority groups.
The Ambassador noted that over 80 percent of all the vaccines received so far in Zambia have so far been channeled through the covax facility. – ZANIS
