FUEL PRICES TO RISE?

By IRVIN MUYUMBWA

THE continued rise in fuel prices on the international market will certainly trigger an increase in the February review by the Energy Regulation Board, the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has said.

JCTR programmes manager Chama Mundia said this will likely impact the inflation rate which may not be stable as expected but that these fundamentals will depend on government intervention.

Ms Mundia said with the price of petroleum having passed the $90 per barrel mark and the exchange rate rising as key fundamentals, prices of fuel will certainly go up soon.

She said in terms of measures to mitigate the consumer whose disposable income will further be eroded, there is need for a focus on the implementation of proposed interventions in the 2022 national budget.
