Muchinga chiefs assured of govt support

GOVERNMENT places high premium on chiefs and the traditional leaders in Muchinga Province are assured of its support, Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary for Special Duties, Patrick Mucheleka has said.

Speaking yesterday, when he met Chief Katyetye in Isoka, Mr. Mucheleka said Government places high premium on chiefs..

Mr Mucheleka has assured him that chiefs in Muchinga Province would always be supported by Government.

He cited the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K1.6 million to K25.7 million to go down the wards that are in chiefdoms.

“The new dawn government has demonstrated the paradigm shift to developing the rural areas by increasing the CDF and re-introducing free education,” said Mr Mucheleka.

And reacting on the cutting off of Kanyala area from the rest of the district at Namfungo cross point, Mr Mucheleka said the DMMU has already been engaged.

He attributed flash floods and damaging of river crossing points to effects of climate change.

Mr Mucheleka is in the province on a familiarisation tour to meet civil servants, traditional leaders, churches and non-governmental organisations.  – ZANIS.
