Rufunsa woman in court for defamation of President

By LUCY PHIRI

A 24-YEAR-OLD woman of Rufunsa has been dragged to court for allegedly defaming the President.

Saliva Laisha, appeared before Magistrate Nthandose Chabala yesterday and denied the charge.

She has been charged with defamation of the President contrary to section 69 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Laisha on January 5, 2022 in Lusaka, with intent to bring the President into hatred, ridicule or contempt did publish a defamatory matter by word of mouth.

She is alleged to have said President Hakainde Hichilema had sacrificed the six Seventh Day Adventist youths who died in the Kariba Dam so that he could work well.

The court has since set February 22 for mention and March 18 for commencement of trial.
