Two men have pleaded guilty to stealing property worth K17,595 after facing one count of burglary and theft in the Choma magistrate court.

It is alleged that Yona Mwale and Jamshit Sikalongo, 22, both of Choma District did break in and stole television set and flash disk among other items all valued at K17,595 property of Mika Chingumbe.

Brief facts before the court are that in the night of  January 1, 2022 the complainant went to bed after securing her property and the following day discovered  items were missing.

She then discovered entry and exit was through the back door which was damaged and reported to Choma Police station where investigations led to the arrest of the accused persons.

Apprehension of the accused persons led to the recovery of property worth K5850 and the two demonstrated how they stole from the complainant.

When called to take plea before Resident Magistrate Selia Kanunka both accused persons pleaded guilty to the charge and were convicted on their own admission.

Both accused persons however failed to justify why they stole from the complainant adding that they had no claim of right.

However, the court could not proceed with judgement as the state asked for time to produce previous records of the accused persons after discovering that they were not first time offenders.

Magistrate Kanunka adjourned the matter to February 8, 2022 for production of previous records while the accused persons remanded in custody.
