LAWYERS representing former Patriotic Front deputy secretary general, Mumbi Phiri and former President Edgar Lungu’s barber Shebby Chilekwa await the court’s advice to include on the cause list the case in which the two are charged with murder.

The demand letter from the law firm to the clerk of sessions in the High Court dated May 12, 2022 availed to the media recently requested that their clients be added to the cause list because they have been in custody for a long time without knowing their fate.

The lawyers from Makebi Zulu Advocates told the Daily Nation that following the letter of demand to cause list their clients that they have been advised by the office of the Directors of Public Prosecution (DPP) the courts would advise in due course.

“There is a letter that has been written by DPP saying the court is the one that cause lists and once the court cause lists, we will accordingly be notified so that is where we are,” the law firm said.

The lawyers in a demand letter request that their clients be put on the cause listed for the June, 2022 session by way of a supplementary cause list and be heard expeditiously because they face a non-bailable case.

Ms. Phiri and Mr. Chilekwa have not been put on the cause list since they were charged with murder in February 2022. The case was last in court in Kaoma on the March 24, 2022 for explanation of the charge.

The duo were in February this year formally arrested and charged with murder of Lawrence Banda, a UPND member.
