Zambia Army to discipline soldiers for assaulting suspects

Zambia Army has instituted disciplinary procedures against two of its officers who assaulted unidentified youths in a video that went viral on social media for allegedly insulting President Hakainde Hichilema, reports ZNBC .

Defence Minister Ambrose Lufuma says joint investigations by the Army and Police revealed that the two uniformed persons were indeed Zambia Army soldiers who were based in Luapula Province.

Addressing the media in Lusaka yesterday, Mr. Lufuma said the Ministry of Defence and the Army upholds discipline, professionalism, Integrity among core values that all military persons abide by.

Yesterday the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and the Human Rights Commission  called on the Army Command to promptly deal with the two military personnel. 

Meanwhile, Millennium Radio reports that the reinstatement of officers in the defence forces who were dismissed on political grounds now remains in the hands of President Hakainde Hichilema following   conclusion  of the reinstatement process, Defence Permanent Secretary Norman Chipakupaku has said..

  President Hichilema soon after being elected    directed all former public service employees who were retired on political and tribal grounds to apply for reinstatement if they desired to return to the civil service.

Mr. Chipakupaku said the team at the ministry had concluded the process and has made recommendations to the President hence it was now up him to make a final decision.

He had since urged the applicants to be patient as the list would be released under State House.
