GBM to take plea on July 29

THE Lusaka Magistrate Court has set July 29, 2022 for commencement of plea in a matter in which former United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba is facing 24 counts of being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime.

When the matter came up yesterday under the Economic and Financial Crimes Court, the magistrate, Mr Sandford Ngobola adjourned it to allow Mwamba to recover as he was informed that he was unwell.

Mwamba’s surety, Mr Kabaso Kapampi who is also Mwansabombwe Member of Parliament at the last hearing informed the court that his colleague was unwell and admitted at Medland Hospital in Lusaka.

It is alleged in count one to 24 Mwamba on unknown date but between December 27 2012 and March 31 2013, in Lusaka being a public officer, namely, Minister of Defence, did fail to disclose interest in writing, relating to Contract No. MPC 111-12 for the supply and delivery of General Purpose Shelter Tents for the Zambia Army, valued at US$1, 220, 000, a transaction that concerns the Ministry of Defence, a public body.
