Ndola woman commits suicide at cemetery

A 21-YEAR-OLD woman in Ndola has allegedly committed suicide after the relatives of a married man she was found walking with threatened her.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident which happened between Monday and Tuesday around 18:00 and 06:30 hours at Kantolomba cemetery and identified the woman as Ms Agnes Mwape. 

Mr Mweemba said Ms Esnart Mwana, 28, reported that her sister, Agnes committed suicide at the cemetery by hanging herself.

Mr Mweemba said Ms Mwape was found walking with someone’s husband and his relatives made threats against her.

“I can confirm that we have a case of suicide involving a 21-year-old woman who allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself after she was threatened by relatives of a married man she was found with,” Mr Mweemba said

Mr Mweemba said on Tuesday, Ms Mwape left home around 18:00 hours without telling anyone where she was going.

“She was later found hanging to a tree the following day by people who went to the grave yard. The matter was reported to the police who rushed to the scene and found the body from a tree,’’ he said.
