Catering industry urged to promote Zambian cuisine

Mastercook Zambia founder Abigail Mbuzi says the catering industry should work towards putting traditional Zambian cuisine on the international market and to avoid dependence on foods from western countries.

Ms Mbuzi said this would not only put Zambia’s cuisine on the world map but also ensure that the international community bought more Zambian food, which would bring in foreign exchange.

She said Mastercook was determined to ensure that Zambian cuisine got noticed on the international market, which would also encourage international chefs from all over the world to try out local dishes. 

Ms Mbuzi added that Mastercook was determined to empower Zambians in the catering industry by launching season five of the Mastercook competition in partnership with Distell Zambia.

“The two winners will be drawn from two categories which are the amateur and professional categories, this is an opportunity for those who want to start up businesses in the catering industry to get exposed,” Ms Mbuzi said.

 Ms Mbuzi called on Zambians to sign up for the competition and get a chance to start up their own businesses.

 She said Mastercook recognised Zambia’s potential in the catering industry, which could contribute to national developed if well harnessed.

 Meanwhile, Distell Zambia head of trade Amusaa Zaza said the company was proud to work with MasterCook in order to empower Zambians. 

Mr Zaza said Distell Zambia was determined to help transform the catering industry and introduce new faces to the sector while ensuring that Zambian dishes gained international recognition.
