57 upnd cadres fined for breaching peace

57 UPND cadres accused of conduct likely to cause breach of Peace told a Luanshya Magistrate that they  they conducted themselves in the unbecoming manner  for the love of the party leadership.

The 57 were asked by the court why they threatened peace  by their conduct.

The 57 who were represented by UPND lawyers Tom Shamakamba and Chimuka Maggubwi pleaded guilty to the charge when they appeared before  Luanshya Resident Magistrate Dominic Makalicha.

Magistrate Makalicha convicted and sentenced the group to a fine of 12 kwacha respectively, the fee was settled by the accused counsel and were later released.

The case which started around 17 hours was only disposed of by 21: 32 hours.

Meanwhile four UPND female cadres were on Thursday arrested by police for booing police officers in Luanshya.

Copperbelt police commissioner charity Katanga has warned that her office would not tolerate indiscipline on the part of political cadres.

Ms. Katanga named the four as Sara Ngulube, 47, of house number no.4033 Chimwemwe Kitwe, Agness Chilunda, 42, of house 11 Mukuba Road  Miseshi Mindolo Kitwe and Barbra Mushabati, 44, of house number NN12 new Cha Cha Kitwe.

Ms.Katanga stated that the accused persons were arrested on Thursday afternoon from the central business district (CBD) by police on patrol.

“The four cadres wore UPND party regalia and when they saw a police patrol vehicle, they began to boo my officers. Let me warn political cadres that I will not tolerate any indiscipline or allow my office to be undermined. “Whichever political party they belong to, they need to adhere to the laws because the officers are on duty to secure their safety and peace,” she said.

Ms. Katanga said the country was not short of laws to punish law breakers.

She disclosed that the accused persons have since been released from custody upon paying an admission of guilty penalty fee.

Meanwhile four UPND cadres four UPND cadres

are facing charges of damage to property and assault occasioning bodily harm, and have pleaded not guilty.

The matter was adjourned to 10th October, 2016 for mention while they remain in police custody.
