THE cartel that almost hijacked the leadership of the Patriotic Front (PF) soon after the death of President Michael Sata is still active and determined to divide and weaken the governing party so that the opposition can have a smooth victory in the next general elections, Gallant Youth in Zambia Executive Director, Henry Mulenga has warned.

Mr Mulenga has revealed that the infamous cartel is at it again, this time around using some so-called senior members of the ruling party in sponsoring insurgency in the PF.

Mr Mulenga cautioned the PF to be wary of the cartel which was still in existence and was determined to disintegrate the ruling party.

He said the unorderly manner in which some PF members were behaving towards the party leadership was a sign that the governing party was being destabilised by a proxy of the cartel within the party.

“The cartel is so bruised to the extent that they are determined to fight the presidency of Edgar Lungu both at the party level and as republican Head of State. The cartel could be sponsoring insurgency in the PF through some of its senior members who are disgruntled.  President Lungu has proved he is a man of his own and has been dismantling the cartel but it has kept on reincarnating,” Mr Mulenga said.

He recalled that when President Lungu vowed to deal with those who could either have stolen or possessed wealth believed to have been acquired dubiously, it marked the beginning of a war with the cartel and its agents which he said was still raging.

Mr Mulenga said PF needed self-cleansing so that it attracted more credible and loyal members, saying it took the genuine members to appreciate what President Lungu was doing to better the lives of the Zambians.

“President Lungu means well and we expect all well-meaning Zambians to give him the much needed support so that he can even do more,” he said.

Mr Mulenga alleged that those who were finding difficulties to work with other members were agents of the cartel who only wanted to satisfy their personal agenda.
