By Bennie Mundando

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu deserves respect from all Zambians regardless of their political affiliations because he is a national leader who has demonstrated his desire to transform this country hence the need to give him space to work during his current tenure and give him another chance in the next election, Lunte MP Mutotwe Kafwaya has said.

Mr. Kafwaya said it would be an act of betrayal for Zambians to trivialise what the country had achieved under President Lungu through sound policies that he had continued to initiate to develop the country if they opposed every positive stride Government was taking.

He said it was now time to put political rhetoric and non-progressive ideas aside and embrace the spirit of unity, peace and love if the country was to move forward. Zambia will not develop if the responsibility was left to President Lungu alone as national building was a collective responsibility.

“The President, just like anyone else who is willing to give more, deserves more. He has demonstrated in unequivocal ways that he is willing to do more in our time and because of this willingness, he deserves more desirable reactions, more love, more encouragement and more consideration,” Mr. Kafwaya said.

He said people in his constituency had resolved to rally behind President Lungu in the 2021 elections because of the developmental programmes that had taken root in the area since his ascendancy to the Presidency.

Mr. Kafwaya cited the declaration of Lunte as a district, the creation of a mega farming bloc in the area, and upgrading of some roads as some of the many projects that people had benefitted from.

He said since coming to power, President Edgar Lungu had done more in Lunte than any of his predecessors hence the need to give him another chance in 2021 to govern.

“We in Lunte have decided that we shall consider him for more years than the coming four to be at the helm of our country for what he is evidently doing in our area. He has declared Lunte a district, he has granted the upgrading of Lunte-Zachariah Chanda road, and he has given a mega farming bloc to be developed.

“This is why no one can doubt him in the area. Someone can say it is the President’s responsibility to do all that, but then, we’ve had six presidents and none has done any of that but President Lungu. So, it is fair to say this President is willing to do more in our place and we shall do more in response to that,” Mr. Kafwaya said.
