PAN Africa Parliament President Roger Dang has congratulated President Edgar Lungu for his statesmanship and conduct regarding the commitment to the political dialogue facilitated by the Commonwealth.

Special assistant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda disclosed this to Journalists yesterday.

Mr Chanda said this was after Mr Dang paid a courtesy call on the President at State House yesterday.

He said the Pan Africa parliament president has since encouraged all political parties and the civil society organisations in Zambia to ensure that what they engage in is genuine political
dialogue.

He indicated that Mr Dang also delivered a message that Zambia was abiding by the virtues of the commitments of the Pan African Parliament.

And Mr Chanda has announced that President Lungu has been invited to address a special session of the Pan African Parliament at the African Union in Ethiopia at his convenience. He said the President accepted the invitation and would schedule it when time allows for him to travel.

“The President has been invited by the Pan African Parliament to address its special session, so he would consult the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carefully make consideration of the invitation when space is available for him to address that Parliament.

“President Lungu is also pleased with the framework of the Pan African Parliament where the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) and opposition political party’s members are interacting,” he said.

And Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba said Zambia believed that unless parliamentarians within the Africa Parliament start talking and comparing notes then the dreams of forefathers such as Kwame Nkrumah, Kenneth Kaunda, Julius Nyerere and many more could be achieved.

Mr Kalaba said Mr Dang’s visit was therefore important for Zambia and that the country remained committed to ensuring ideals that were espoused in the Pan African Parliament were given their importance to be achieved in given limits of time.

And Mr Dang said he is impressed with President Lungu’s commitment towards on-going political dialogue.

“As Pan African Parliament we are impressed with the manner you are handling the on-going dialogue and we want to extend an invitation to you to come and address the Pan African Parliament,” he said.

Mr Dang was accompanied by two Zambian members of Parliament Geoffrey Lungwangwa and Anthony Mumba.
