Ministry of Health Human Resource Officer Henry Kapoko yesterday admitted tampering with court exhibits by using a title deed to a seized property to obtain a loan.
And medical personnel from the University Teaching Hospital yesterday certified Kapoko fit to stand trial contrary to his earlier assertions that he was unwell. Kapoko had told the court that he needed medical attention as he suspected his blood pressure to be too high.
The court subsequently sent him to the UTH whose findings have indicated that the accused was fit to stand trial.
This is in the case in which the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has revoked bail for Former Ministry of Health Human Resource Officer Henry Kapoko in the matter in which he and 12 others are facing 20 counts of theft by public servant involving over K6.8 Million.
When the matter came up for determination of case and hearing of the health status of the accused, Kapoko agreed to having breached his bail conditions by interfering with exhibits before court.
Kapoko admitted to having tampered with the seized property but denied having sold any. He said he used the title deed of his house to get a loan in order to settle bills including bills from the seized property.
Kapoko told the court that in trying to save his property he did not know he would interfere with his freedom.
And magistrate Exornobit Zulu told the accused that the court was worried about the safety of the exhibits and evidence before court.
Zulu said Kapoko’s bail was being revoked in the interest of justice.
Kapoko and others are also facing 49 counts of money laundering involving 24 vehicles, two lodges, three houses, filling station and several bank accounts and awaiting judgment on January 23 2017.
