ZAMBIA has recorded five more Covid-19 cases bringing the cumulative number to 57 confirmed cases in the country, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has announced.
He said yesterday at a press briefing that all the five cases were from the 124 tests conducted in the Kafue operation during the lockdown.
Dr Chilufya said the five new cases involved a 3- year-old female, 36-year-old male from from Shikoswe compound, eight-year -old- boy, a 54- year- old man from Nangongwe and a 56 -year -old female from Kafue East.
He said investigations had been constituted to establish all traces and contacts of all positive cases to stop the spread of the virus.
Dr Chilufya said mass screening and targeted testing in Kafue was going to continue and disclosed that the Ministry of Health was going to carry out specific screening in Lusaka following reported cases in Marrapodi, Makeni and at Chilenje Hospital.
“Let’s stay home. The story of the Marrapodi family gives you the reason to stay home. Let us avoid unnecessary family to family visits,” he said.
He also disclosed that three patients had been discharged bringing the number of recoveries to 33 and 17 active cases, with two deaths recorded so far.
Dr Chilufya also said 8, 534 cases in total have been tested and 2, 435 people have been released from the 14 days mandatory quarantine.
He also disclosed that the 19 -year- old covid-19 patient recorded on Friday from Bauleni compound hasdbeen transferred to a specialised centre and that her condition was critical.
Dr Chiluya said everyone should all join hands with Government to ensure that moral discipline and personal responsibility took precedence and urged people to sacrifice now for a better tomorrow and a Covid-19 free country.
