FORMER University of Zambia (UNZA) lecturer, Thomas Mtonga, has pledged to become voice of the differently-abled people once elected as Chasefu member of Parliament on the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) ticket in the August 12 general elections.
In an interview in Lusaka, Dr. Mtonga, the visually-impaired candidate, said the PF government has enacted many Acts of Parliament and pieces of legislation to support differently-abled people but there were gaps in implementation of such laws and rights.
He said he would bridge the gap and open up the education area for differently-abled people as he has done a lot of research on the matter.
Dr. Mtonga, a holder of four university degrees and three diplomas in special education and international human rights law, said his research has established that people with disabilities do not excel in education.
