FIRING of some senior government officials including the secretary to cabinet, is clear witch-hunt, vindictiveness, malicious and not because the subject officers underperformed in their positions, Green Party (GP) leader Peter Sinkamba has said.

He said instead of finding solutions, President Hakainde Hichilema and his government are busy dissolving boards and firing people even in areas where there are no problems.

“For example the country has witnessed the secretary to cabinet Dr Miti and PSs being fired without any reason but at the same time the same government is casting a blind eye to the ills happening at companies like Zambia Airways,” he said.

And commenting on the alleged corruption and mismanagement at Zambia Airways, Mr Sinkamba urged government to immediately probe the happenings at the airline before the situation escalated.

He said under normal circumstances in a serious government, after the letter was circulated, it was expected the Head of State or the Ministry of Transport and Communication to have immediately intervened but because they don’t care about the welfare and the plight of the people of Zambia, they are quite as if nothing happened.

Mr Sinkamba said what is happening at Zambia Airways is a sorry story and that the unfortunate part is that the bad things are happening under the watch of the UPND government which promised that it was going to “fix” ills.

He said while in opposition, the UPND as a party promised that once elected into government, they were going to ensure professionalism in the administration of state enterprises but what Zambians are seeing now is that there is total a mess in the parastatals.

Mr Sinkamba said it’s unfortunate that those committing crimes against the people of Zambia, for example in the case of Zambia Airways have been let scot free.

He said it’s difficult to advise the UPND administration because of the know-it-all altitude on issues of national importance.
“We will just watch and let them be, because this is what Zambians wanted and voted for,” said Mr Sinkamba.
