Choma will in the first quarter of 2022 have a title deeds registry office, Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa has said.
He was speaking in Choma when he officiated during the re-opening of the refurbished Zambia National Building Society branch.
Mr Mweetwa explained that this will cut the long distance covered by locals to access the services to Lusaka.
He said this will also be a way in which services will be brought closer to the people and get motivated to build more infrastructure including houses.
The minister observed that some people are currently hindered to get financial help from institutions due to lack of title deeds which are not issued in the town.
Mr Mweetwa urged the Zambia Building Society to work towards making it easy for locals to build and own infrastructure through the services they provide.
” We currently do not even attain the required standard infrastructure for hosting even soccer players, that’s why they go and camp from Lusaka so may your institution help in ensuring we have high standard infrastructure,” said Mr Mweetwa.
He further said infrastructure will be key in developing the town as the administration plans on making it attain the city status by 2026.
And the minister commended ZNBS for coming up with services that help locals and called on the other businesses to emulate the institution.
Managing Ditector Mildred Mutesa stressed that the refurbished branch was a measure of strengthening customer service delivery to clients.
She said the institution had successfully offered deliberate loans to its clients in order to support them during the Covid 19 pandemic.
Ms Mutesa also disclosed that the institution has engaged farmers through offering them financial support.
She pledged that the institution will keep working with government to increase capacity and reach out to more Zambians.
