CHIEFTAINESS Shimukunami of the Lamba people in Lufwanyama has taken an active role in sensitising her subjects about Covid-19 and ensuring that they get vaccinated against the pandemic.

Chieftainess Shimukunami said she had decided to lead the way in vaccinating against the Covid-19 when herself and the more than 60 of her subjects at the palace compound were vaccinated.

She was speaking on Tuesday when Water Development and Sanitation Minister Mike Mposha paid a courtesy call on her before touring the Katembula Dam in the chiefdom.

Chieftainess Shimukunam said most villagers of her chiefdom have been vaccinated that today  the people of Kansoka and Funda villages which were the furthest will be vaccinated.

“In my chiefdom, we have done our best, in terms of vaccinating against Covid-19.  We started from the palace compound before moving to other villages in the Chiefdom. During my annual visitation, I did my best to explain and sensitise the people on the importance of vaccinating against Covid-19.

“I must commend officers from the Ministry of Health who were carrying out vaccinations,” Chieftainess Shimukunami said.

She also bemoaned the problem of water supply in the chiefdom and hoped that government would be able to drill many boreholes in the area to ease the challenges of water reticulation.

“I must commend President Hakainde Hichilema for allowing you to come here and check on the water supply situation in the chiefdom. We are hoping that the situation will be addressed under the new dawn administration,” she said.

Mr Mposha said the new administration had decided to improve water supply in various communities because, in this time of Covid-19,  safe and clean water was very important in fighting the pandemic.

In demonstrating its desire to improve water supply especially in the rural areas, Mr Mposha said, Government had increased its budgetary allocation to the ministry by nine percent bringing it to K2.199 billion.
