FORMER President Edgar Lungu’s political advisor Kaizer Peter Zulu has asked the court to release his passport in order for him to seek medical attention.

Zulu through his Lawyer Joseph Chirwa has submitted to the court that he needed to access his passport in order to seek medical attention.

In this matter, Zulu pleaded not guilty to one count of failing to appear before the nearest immigration, one count of Failure to surrender diplomatic passport and one count of Personating Public Officers contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

When the matter came up for trial yesterday before Silvia Munyinya, Mr. Chirwa informed the court that the passport had already been marked and ready to be produced to exercise fundamental movements and also to access medical attention through the use of that passport.

“Our client needs to access medical attention and asking the court to release his passport,” he said.

But the state in response said the court had not yet pronounced its decision on the release of passport hence the application be dismissed.

Meanwhile, an immigration officer and Chief Supervisor based at Chirundu boarder, Mr Peter Fumbeye, 45, testified that on December 4, 2022 he checked on the Zambia immigration system and discovered that Peter Kaizer zulu left the country on 23rd of July 2022.

Mr. Fumbeye said whilst checking on the system he also discovered that there was no information indicating that the accused had entered the country.

It is alleged in count one that Zulu on December 9, 2022 in Lusaka, did fail to appear before the nearest Immigration Officer at a port of entry.

In count two, it is alleged that Zulu on unknown date but between December 20, 2019 and December 2, 2022 in Lusaka, without reasonable excuse, did fail to surrender his Diplomatic Passports No.D0012325 and D0012791 when required to do so by the Chief Passports and Citizenship Officer upon ceasing being a diplomat.

In the last count, Zulu on unknown dates but between August 8, 2022 and August 28, 2022, did falsely represent himself to be a person employed in the public service as a Diplomat to an Immigration Officer in Kenya.

The court has since adjourned the matter to March 14, 2023 for ruling.
