Chief Mpepo says Kafwaya was ‘executed’

CHIEF Mpepo of Northern Province has demanded answers from the Government over the death of former Lunte Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya, whom he says was executed by State security agents.

Speaking after Kafwaya’s burial at his home village in Lunte, Chief Mpepo said the circumstances surrounding the former lawmaker’s death were serious and required a clear explanation from the authorities.

The traditional leader said the Kafwaya family and the people of Lunte deserved to know what happened to the former lawmaker and why he died.

“This is a very serious matter. As a chiefdom, we want the Government to explain to us how and why our son, Mutotwe Kafwaya, died,” Chief Mpepo said.

He said the chiefdom had not taken Kafwaya’s death lightly and would not consider the matter closed until the State provided satisfactory answers.

“We have not taken this matter lightly. We shall only close this matter when the Government gives us a sufficient explanation about what happened to Kafwaya,” he said.

Chief Mpepo also called on the authorities to return some of Kafwaya’s personal belongings which, according to the family, were not found on his body.

“We are also demanding that the Government brings back some of his belongings, including his clothes, wallet and other items which were not found on his body,” he said.

The traditional leader said Kafwaya would remain etched in the memories of the people of Lunte because of the support he provided to vulnerable members of the community.

“Kafwaya’s name will forever be etched in the minds of the people of Lunte because he was a leader who helped many people in this community,” Chief Mpepo said.

“He paid school fees for children, provided food to families and assisted people in many different ways. That is the legacy he has left behind.”

Chief Mpepo said the people of Lunte expected justice and transparency over the circumstances surrounding Kafwaya’s death.

“We want the truth. We want to know exactly what happened to our son. The people of Lunte deserve answers,” he said.
