Zambia remains a beacon of democracy - Mnangagwa

ZIMBABWEAN President Emmerson Mnangagwa has described Zambia as a beacon of democratic stability, peaceful governance and unity on the African continent.

Mr Mnangagwa made the remarks while congratulating President Hakainde Hichilema on taking the oath of office for his second term.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of our nation, I extend our warmest congratulations to President Hakainde Hichilema on taking the oath of office today for his second term,” Mr Mnangagwa said.

He said Zambia’s peaceful transfer and consolidation of power demonstrated the strong historical, cultural and developmental bonds between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

“Zambia continues to serve as a beacon of democratic stability, peaceful governance, and unity on our continent,” Mr Mnangagwa said.

“Watching the peaceful exchange and consolidation of power today reminds us of the shared bonds of history, culture, and progress that deeply connect our two nations.”

Mr Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations with Zambia and deepening economic cooperation between the two countries.

He also pledged continued cooperation with Zambia through the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) in efforts to promote regional integration and prosperity.

“We look forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations, deepening our economic cooperation, and working hand-in-hand within SADC and the African Union to build a more prosperous and integrated region for all our people,” he said.

Mr Mnangagwa wished President Hichilema and Vice-President Mutale Nalumango wisdom, good health and success as they begin their second term.

“I wish President Hichilema and Vice President Mutale Nalumango abundant wisdom, excellent health, and immense success as they lead Zambia forward,” he said.

“May the Almighty God bless the Republic of Zambia? May God bless our enduring partnership?”
