UPND Chirundu MP backs govt measures on Covid-19

By LILLIAN CHIKANDI
CHIRUNDU Member of Parliament Douglas Siakalima has appealed to the public to abide by the guidelines implemented by government to avoid crowded places and gatherings.
Mr Siakalima said that he is aware of some people who are still crossing to Zimbabwe using bush paths for their own social businesses despite the lockdown in that country.
He warned residents to stop because by doing they could still contract the virus that can only be detected after 14 days and infect many other people before testing was done and confirmed.
He said other countries like South Africa have locked down for 21 days while here in Zambia it’s only 14 days of intensified implementation of stringent measures and during this period he has urged the citizenry to observe hygiene conditions.
He cautioned that it was to their own advantage because the Covid-19 virus was very dangerous and could easily kill a whole generation, hence the need for everyone to understand it.
Mr Siakalima has cautioned people in his constituency to change their social behaviour failure to which many people will live to regret, as the country did not have adequate facilities.
He said research had shown that social distancing and just staying home during this pandemic had harvested positive outcome and emphasized that people should avoid hand shakes.
