By ANDREW MUKOMA
ONE officer from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) in Monze has died while four others sustained minor injuries after the vehicle they were travelling was involved in a road traffic accident.
The accident happened when their vehicle plunged into a ditch as they were pursuing suspected poachers in the Lochnivar National Park.
Area Warden, Kafue Management Unit Kamona Akayombokwa confirmed the development to the Sunday Nation and identified the dead as George Mbulo, 48 who was in the company of four other officers, Albert Nsovu, Benson Mbahwe, Collin Kabobo and Robby Chilufya.
Mr Akayombokwa said that the officers were on normal patrols in the park when they spotted suspected poachers and gave chase.
He explained that in the process, their vehicle hit a ditch with a pool of water and stopped abruptly adding that the impact threw two officers out of the vehicle who landed on the bonnet.
Mr Akayombokwa explained that Mr Mbulo sustained deep life threatening body cuts while other officers had minor injuries.
