MORE congratulatory messages have continued to pour for Mary Mbewe, the 2020 Women In News (WIN) Editorial Leadership Award Laureate for Africa with latest being from Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany and MISA Zambia.

The award winning Ms Mbewe is the Executive Editor of the Daily Nation Newspaper Zambia.
Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany, Anthony Mukwita, said in his congratulatory message to Ms Mbewe that her award was well deserved and indicated her contribution to the development of journalism in the country.
He said the award symbolised her strength in particular in helping to bring to light the stories and voices of men, women, and children that ordinarily would not make it in the news. “As Executive Editor, Ms. Mbewe has been in a position of influence providing leadership in the coverage and publication of news. In such a role, we can see Zambian women contributing their unique perspective to what constitutes news and who the newsmakers are,” he said.
Mr Mukwita is also former Managing Director of the Zambia Daily Mail, one of the oldest and largest daily newspapers in Zambia.
He stressed that having more women in decision-making positions was cardinal to fulfill international obligations to which the country was a party.
Meanwhile, MISA Zambia Chairperson, Hellen Mwale, this Award was important as it recognised an exemplary contribution of an Editor to her newsroom, and under her leadership, the contribution of media industry. Ms Mwale said her organisation noted that the work of the media in Zambia was being appreciated not only in Zambia but in the region and the globe.
“Awards as these ones encourage the media fraternity to continue being professional and exemplary in their work.
“MISA Zambia therefore congratulates Mary for scooping this prestigious award and for raising the Zambian flag but also for paving a way for women in the media in Zambia,” she said.
And former Executive Editor of the People Daily from Kenya, Ken Bosire, also sent his congratulatory messages
“Hi Mary! Congratulations for winning this year’s Editorial Leadership Award by WANNP. You de-serve it,” he said.
