… They are conniving with corrupt council

officers to grab even our gazetted roads

By BENNIE MUNDANDO

I AM closely following these illegal developers in Emmasdale because aba bantu (foreigners) nabatumpa sana as they are conniving with a corrupt council to extend structures even onto our gazetted roads but I will not condone this in my constituency, Matero MP, Lloyd Kaziya has warned.

Commenting on an illegal demarcation and allocation of a plot on Mimosa Road to a businessman, Mehmud Suleman Mohamed, who has built structures which have blocked the Defence School of Health Sciences Medical College, Mr. Kaziya warned that those who were conniving with the businessman will soon be exposed.

He said he won’t rest until the structure was brought down, noting there was no justification for the council to give a commercial plot to Mr. Mohamed on a gazetted road and block a Government institution.

Mr Kaziya said he had met the Minister of Local Government and Housing, Mr Vincent Mwale over the matter and that it had been agreed that the Road Development Agency (RDA) be summoned to give guidance on how to proceed with the matter.

“I am following those illegal developers because aba bantu nabatumpa sana. They are conniving with some corrupt individuals at the council to begin to extend onto our road

reserves. I have taken this issue to Hoourable Mwale and he has guided that we should consult the RDA on how we will procced with reference to the law.

“The council cannot be approving wrong things and so we just have to move in using the statutes that govern road reserves. The council is just corrupt. That is all I can say. They cannot give road reserves to foreigners to develop. That is wrong and I am following it up,” Mr. Kaziya said.

He said there had been a lot of illegality especially in his constituency but warned that any corruption involved in land allocation would be followed to its conclusive end until those involved were brought to book.

“There is quite a number of foreigners that are erecting structures on road reserves. If you go to the road parallel to Sheki-Sheki Road, you will find that the guy has taken up the whole shoulder of the road reserve and he is busy developing. If you go to Emmasdale behind the Total Filling Station, you will find the guys are doing the same and this is wrong.

“If there are any other illegal developments within my constituency I will visit them using the law so that we show them as an example. People should know that this is wrong and I do not support it. The council will have to account for their activities and decisions,” he warned.

Meanwhile, the opening of the Defence School of Health Sciences Medical College is said to be in limbo owing to the same development.

Further, the development has left the army with no parking space around the premises allegedly forcing the command to ask for permission from the Emmasdale Baptist Church to create a car pack just outside its fence to mitigate the parking space challenge.
