MMD members should start to make it competitive because it is the party that has brought democracy in Zambia, says MMD chairperson for energy and water development Tobias Kafumukache.
Mr Kafumukache said it was unacceptable that members were joining other parties to build and progress in their entities, when MMD was the only party that was the mother of democracy.
Mr Kafumukache told members in Lukulu to stop sustaining other political parties because they have a duty to help resurrect the former ruling party.
“Today, other parties are boasting of being leading parties with a lot of members due to those that have left the MMD, and as members we can bring back our members to their original roots,” he said.
Mr Kafumukache urged MMD members and all officials to go to the grassroots for recruitment and mobilisation to stem the defection to other parties.
“We cannot leave our party to go and help other parties build and progress in their entities. Let us not continue with that, but instead we should go to the grassroots and bring back our lost members,” Mr Kafumukache said.
Meanwhile, MMD national secretary Raphael Nakacinda noted that when the party left power, it left a stable national reserve.
He said it was not a secret that when the MMD was ejected from office, the country’s economy was doing well hence the reason late President Michael Sata appointed some members to help run his government.
